Rajshahi-Atiqur Rahman Raza, an asst. professor of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) Department at Rajshahi University (RU) has been suspended temporarily while a three member probe committee formed against Prof. Tanveer Ahmed another teacher of the same department alleging involved with the abnormal death of Prof. Akter Jahan Joly.The decision has taken from the 469th syndicate meeting of the university headed with vice chancellor Prof. Muhammed Mizanuddin at the VC`s lounge Tuesday night.
Earlier police detained teacher Raza on Nov 03 from the Talaimary of the Rajshahi city area by Detective Branch (DB) police for the questioning into the matter while the court send him into jail three days later.
A syndicate member of the university said as per university ordinance a teacher to be suspended temporarily from the university after the arrested which decision was implemented against Prof. Raza. Besides, syndicate brought out another departmental teacher and also deceased teacher Joly`s former husband Prof. Tanveer under investigation, as different allegation including sexual harassment with provocation his ex wife to abnormal death were placed against him to the varsity
authority.
Syndicate made Prof. Sultanul Islam, director of Institute of Environment Science (IES) head of the probe committee. Two other members are syndicate member Dr. Md Nasim Reza Opu and Prof. Tanzima Zohra Habib.
Authority asked the committee to submit its report soon on the basis of transparency.
It is noted that police recovered Prof. Joly`s dead body inside her campus quarters on September 09 afternoon with a suicide note from the room.
Kamrul Hasan, younger brother of Jolly, filed a case under section 306 of penal code stating that she was forced to commit suicide with Motihar Police Station on the following day.
Firstly police tracing the cell phone records of both teachers Raza and Joly, police confirmed Raza`s involvement in the issue, and then took into jail through the court.-RU Correspondent
