University is known as the progressive cultural centre of a country.
It is the stage of blooming students merit, thoughts and cultural
mind. Teachers Students cultural centre (TSCC) can play big role to
remove the distance between teachers and students and make university
as the world-wide cultural yard. But it is the matter of great sorrow
that the dream of complete TSCC doesn’t come true at Rajshahi
University (RU) till now after its establishment in 1953.
Different cultural organization of RU staged movements in several
times for rebuilding TSCC. But gross negligence of all the university
administrations, unexpected political condition, corruption, are the
main barrier of TSCC.
In 1984, a decision was taken by the university administration to
build TSCC for several students-movements during that period. In 1991,
it was supposed to start the work, but absence of adequate allocated
money and negligence of the authority, are the main reason to stop the
work. At last the construction work of TSCC started in 2006. But the
under-construction building had broken down for using low quality
construction materials. An investigative team was made in this regard,
but till the result doesn’t come.
Every administration gave word to the students build a complete TSCC
immediate after taking charge of the university, but till now no
authority kept their words. But we came to know that Rajshahi
University has lot of cultural organizations than any other public
universities in the country.
Demanding reconstruction of the TSCC building several cultural
organizations’ leaders expressed their opinion.
Bashudeb Roy, RU Kendrio Sangskritik Jote (KSJ) president said, “they
have been launching their movement for reconstructing TSCC building
since its collapse in 2006 where the university authorities’ s
indifference is the main barrier in this regard.
They said the university authorities charge every student a fee of Tk
15 every year for TSCC purposes, but they do not pay any heed to the
rebuilding of the TSCC.
RU Chattra Federation President Golam Mostofa blamed the university
administration for their blindness behaves toward TSCC reconstruction.
“The running administration assured us of reconstructing the building
although it is doubtful whether this assurance would come true or
not”, he added.
Prof Md. Nazrul Islam, RU TSCC director told that they were trying
with their concerted effort to restart the TSCC building construction
to continue cultural exercise smoothly on the campus.
Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Pro Vice Chancellor of the university
told that they have asked the consultants to give the design of the
TSCC reconstruction. They would start the reconstruction work after
getting the design as soon as possible.
He also reject the proposal of the several cultural organizations to
relocate the building at the old folklore chattar as all the cultural
institutions like RUCSU, auditorium are situated at the place of TSCC
previous area.
