RU VC’s residence gheraoed as female student kidnapped

Rajshahi – Demanding urgent steps to find out a female student of the university who has been kidnapped and protesting the lack of security on campus the female students of Rajshahi University burst into protest and gheraoed the university VC residence on Friday.The missing student is Umme Sahi Tamanna Shuva, a final year student of Bangla department, a residential student of the university and daughter of Amzad Hussain hailed hailing from Mohadebpore Upazila in Naogaon district.
Eyewitness sources said, around 6 to 8 unidentified men forced her to get on a microbus around 8 am on Friday in front of Taposhi Rabeya Hall when Shuva came out from her hall to attend her pre-scheduled departmental examination.
Tamanna Hossain, a roommate of the victim, said, she was married to Sohel Rana, son of Advocate Nazrul Islam of Patnitola village under the same district in last December. He often tortured her for dowry since she got married. At one stage, she was divorced on last 31 September. Sometimes Sohel came to RU and forced her to rebuild their husband-wife relation but she refused him, she added.
On the other hand, the students of the Bangla department are demanding the re-scheduling of their exam.
University Proctor Prof Dr Luthfor Rahman said, Sohel kidnapped the female student and CCTV has footage of the matter and kidnapers went out on their bus through the entrance of Fine Art Faculty. ‘Her father came to me and he would solve the problems by talking with his daughter’s ex-husband family members. The university authorities informed security forces of the kidnapping with a Agitated female students of Rajshahi University on Friday request to recover her, he added.
Mehedi Hasan, the officer in charge of Motihar Police Station admitted the matter and said they are trying their best to rescue her from kidnappers. However, any case is yet to be filed.
University VC Professor M Abdus Sobhan denied the matter of kidnapping. He termed it as a family dispute. – RU Correspondent
