The Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance will hold mass processions in the city and across the country on Saturday in protest against what it said the violent acts carried out by the BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami in the month of victory to ‘protect the war criminals’.
In Dhaka, the mass procession will begin from the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the afternoon and end at the ‘Bijoy Mancha’ of Suhrawardy Udyan after parading Paltan intersection, National Press Club and Matsya Bhaban roads.
The alliance on Friday evening held a views-exchange meeting at Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in the city with the leaders of all of its student and youth fronts as well as other progressive organisations.
Awami League Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu presided over the meeting in which the grassroots-level leaders and activists of the ruling party were urged to make the mass procession a success in all the districts and upazilas.
The meeting was also attended, among others, by Post and Telecommunications Minister Shahara Khatun, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) General Secretary Sharif Nurul Islam Ambia, Ganotantri Party General Secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, Workers’ Party’s Political Bureau Member Fazle Hossain Badsha and Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Organising Secretary AHM Bahauddin Nasim.
Top leaders of the grand alliance announced the mass procession from a meeting at Awami League President’s political office on Dec 9.
