Bringing the allegation of vote fraud in the third phase of upazila polls, BNP on Saturday alleged that the ruling party men with the help of law enforcers captured most of the voting centers in 41 districts.
“We had expressed our apprehension that the government was conspiring to manipulate the election results into its candidates’ favour. Our apprehension came true as ruling party cadres have indulged in polling station capturing spree soon after the voting opened,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader came up with the allegation at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday.BNP alleged that the Election Commission and high officials of police and Rab are working in favour of the ruling party candidates in 81 upazilas where voting started at 8 am.
“This upazila polls again proved that no free and fair election can be held under the incumbent Election Commission,” Rizvi alleged.
The BNP leader said the ruling party men, as per their information, with the help of law enforcers have captured polling stations at Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni, Muladi and Babuganj upazilas in Barisal, Lohagara in Narail, Mongla Sadar, Rampal, Sharankhola and Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat, Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur, Muktagachha in Mymensingh, Monirampur in Jessore, Nangalkot in Comilla, Shariatpur sadar, Pirojpur sadar, Sitakunda in Chittagong and Kurigam sadar.
Addressing the press briefing, BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said the government has deployed army in the election as eyewash as they were not given power to check vote fraud. “We think army should be given necessary power to ensure a free and fair election,” he added. – UNB
