SA Women win T20I series against Bangladesh

Dhaka – Bangladesh women’s cricket team suffered 0-2 series loss in the three-match T20Is against host South Africa (SA) as the visitors conceded a 32-run defeat in the second game at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday.Bangladesh lost the 1st T20I of the series by 17 runs at Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Thursday.In the day’s match, chasing a target of 170 for 4 in 20 overs, Bangladesh ended on 137 for 5 in 20 overs where Shamima Sultana hit a half century of 50 off 43 balls, including six boundaries and one over boundary.

Shamima Sultana shared a partnership of 77 off 9.4 overs with Fargana Hoque in the 3rd wicket before Fargana was caught by Stacy Lackay off Shabnim Ismail.

Fargana added run-a-ball-37 with four boundaries in the partnership innings to carry the team collection to 98/3 in 13.3 overs from 21/2 in 3.5 overs.

Shamima Sultana was bowled out by Ayabonga Khaka, leaving the team-total on 113/4 in 16.5 overs.Number-7 Panna Ghosh [14* off 11b; 1×4] was another double digit scorer in the end for Bangladesh.

Three pace bowlers — Shabnim Ismail [2/29], Marizanne Kapp [1/23] and Ayabonga Khaka [1/25] — shared four wickets for winning team.

Sent in to bat first, SA Women posted 169 for 4 in 20 overs spurred with two half centuries by all-rounder Sune Luus [71 off 57b; 9×4] and skipper Dane van Niekerk [66 off 42b; 11×4; 1].

Starting from 35/2 in 4.3 overs, both the half centurions shared a partnership innings of 96 off 12.1 overs in the 3rd wicket to carry the team total to131/3 in 6.4 overs before player of the match Dane van Niekerk was bowled out by Nahida Akter.

Panna Ghosh sent off big hitter Sune Luus, caught by Nigar Sultana, in the innings 163/4 in 19.5 overs.Chloe Tryon [18* off 9b; 1×4; 1×6] and Tazmin Brits [10 off 10b; 2×4] were the other double digit scorers for the host side.

Spinn bowler Nahida Akter [2/32] and pace bowler Panna Ghosh [2/32] equally shared four wickets for Bangladesh.The 3rd and last T20I of the series will be held at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on May 20.However, on their current tour, Bangladesh finished the ODI series with a 0-5 clean sweep against the South Africa.
