Safe poultry farming stressed for sound public health

Speakers at a discussion stressed the need for safe poultry farming to ensure sound public health.They also emphasized bringing all the poultry farmers, traders, feed manufactures, sellers and others concerned under necessary training to enhance their awareness in this regard.
The observations came at the meeting on poultry farming at MRK College Hall room in Paba Upazila of the district yesterday.
Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) organized the meeting in association with an Issue-based project titled “Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector in Bangladesh”, UKaid and British Council.

Decosta and Field Officers Mohidul Hassan and Mozammel Haque addressed the meeting as focal persons.
During his concept paper presentation, Agriculturist Mohidul Hassan gave an overview of the country’s poultry sector. He puts forward a set of recommendations to make the poultry sector safe and hygienic.
He said the role of farmers and retailers is very important to ensure feed safety with resisting high-powered antibiotics use in it.
Hassan opined that using high-powered and overrated antibiotic in poultry feed is harmful to public health. So, time has come to look into the matter with utmost emphasis. There is no alternative to ensuring safe poultry feed and good poultry farming management, he added, reports  BSS from Rajshahi.
