Dhaka, 19 Aug – Amid widespread call for their unconditional release, a total of 42 students involved in the recent student protests for safe roads and quota reforms have been given bail. Among them, 14 students were among the 22 students from different private universities, who were arrested in connection with the recent student protest for safe roads in the first quarter of August.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero granted bail to Iftekhar Hossain, arrested in a case filed with Badda Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Mainuddin Siddiqui gave bail to 13 private university students. They are Shakhwat Hossain Nijhum, Shihab Shahriar, Azijul Karim Antor, Mehedi Hassan, Masad Mortuza Bin Ahad and Adnan Ahmed, shown arrested in a case filed with Vatara Police Station; and Nur Mohammad Zahedul Haque, Md Hasan, Redwan Ahmed Tarequl Islam, AHM Khalid Reza, Reza Rifad Ahmed, Mushfiqur Rahim and Rashidul Islam, shown arrested in a case filed with Badda Police Station.
In total, 42 students were arrested in different cases filed with Badda, Vatara, Uttara Paschim, Shahbagh, Dhanmondi, Paltan and New Market Police Stations.
Among them, 12 were implicated in cases filed with Badda police, six with Vatara police, 3 with Ramna, three with Uttara west police, 2 with Shahbagh, one with Paltan, and Kotwali Police Stations, nine with Dhanmondi police, and three with New Market Police Stations and another three with Kotwali Police Station..
Earlier, eminent lawyers Dr. Kamal Hossain and Barrister Mainul Hosein and founder of Ganosasthya Kendro Dr. Zafurullah Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
Barrister Jotirmoy Barua also went to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court to take care of the bail of the students who were arrested during the road safety protest and quota reforms movement.
Other Judge and Magistrates, who granted bail to the students include: Judge of Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Keshob Roy Chowdhury, Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor, Magistrate Kari Kamrul Islam and Magistrate Sadbir Yasin Ahsan Chowdhury, While commenting on the orders of several courts the senior lawyers told journalists that they are thankful to the judges of the courts who granted the bails to the students.
