Dhaka – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka to return the passport of Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna for three months.At the same time, the Appellate Division asked Manna to submit the passport to the CMM Court within one week of his return from abroad after medical treatment.
The three-member Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing on a petition Manna filed seeking his passport.
Manna had to submit his passport to the court after the Appellate Division on November 28, last year upheld his bail and asked the court to keep his passport if it is not appropriated.
The Appellate Division upheld the bail granted by the High Court in two cases filed on the charges of treason and inciting military coup with Gulshan Police Station of the city in early 2015. Mahmudur Rahman Manna was arrested on February 25, 2015, after an audio clip of his telephone-conversation with Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka, who was staying in New York, and another person was leaked. – Special Correspondent
