SC’s warrant of precedence verdict – coordination needed: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today stressed the need for a smooth and precisely better coordination among the country’s three main organs-judiciary, executive and legislative- to run the governance, otherwise a disorder may arise.
“The constitution itself has earmarked the status of these organs. However, a disorder may arise if anyone all on a sudden makes a whimsical announcement, not abiding by the constitution,” she said. The Prime Minister said it is not proper to determine own status or give verdict in own favour. “Such verdicts cannot be given through self promotion, as it may go advantageous if a status is fixed whimsically,” she said.
The Leader of the House said this in reply to a supplementary raised by Jatiya Party lawmaker Selim Uddin on a higher court verdict on the upgrading status of district judges up to the secretaries.
Sheikh Hasina said if the district judges are given the status of
secretaries, then those in the higher court would go to which status? They would go above the status of the President after getting promotion, she said.
“Bangladesh is not an isolated place,” she said and called for looking at other countries as to how they are dealing with these matters.
“Those working in the judiciary should perform their responsibilities properly and similarly those working in the executive should discharge their duties properly,” she observed.
“But there must be coordination among them. Then a state con function smoothly,” she said. – BSS
