SC stays in hours HC stay on Press Club new body

Hours after the High Court slapped a six-month injunction on the activities of the new committee of the Jatiya Press Club, the Supreme Court on Thursday night stayed the order for eight weeks.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order around 8pm after hearing a petition filed against the HC order at his residence.The single High Court bench of Justice Sharif Uddin Chaklader slapped a six-month embargo on the operation of the new Press Club committee formed with M Shafiqur Rahman as its president and Quamrul Islam Chowdhury as general secretary on May 28 this year.
He passed the order following a petition filed by Syed Abdal Ahmad, general secretary of the expired committee.
However, leaders of the new committee went to the house of chamber judge Justice Hasan Foez Siddique in the evening against the High Court order.
After hearing the appeal, the justice stayed the High Court order for eight weeks. – – UNB
