Send relief to cyclone affected people: Khaleda urged Govt

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday urged the government to send necessary relief materials to cyclone-hit areas.
In a statement,issued to the press the former premier accused the government of having failed to stand beside the storm-hit people with necessary relief support.
“It is very regretful that the government has so far failed to carry out any mentionable relief activities she said.The BNp chief claimed over a lakh of people in Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Bhola, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Feni, Barisal, Barguna, Jhalakati, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Noakhali, Patuakhali, Pirojpur and the Chittagong Hill Tracts rendered homeless due to the sudden flood caused by heavy rains under the influence of storm Komen.
“Most upazila headquarters of those districts have got disconnected from district towns as many roads went under floodwater,” she said.
Under the circumstances, Khaleda said, people in the areas are passing an inhumane life for lack of pure drinking water, food, medicine and shelter.
“I strongly demand the government immediately start operation to rescue the affected people and supply pure water, medicine and relief materials for them,” she said.
Khaleda also demanded the government take immediate steps to rehabilitate those lost their shelters in the storm.
She claimed that her party has already started relief activities in the storm-affected areas.
The BNp chairperson asked the  party leaders and activists at all levels to stand beside the people of the storm-hit areas with their best efforts to alleviate their sufferings. – Staff Reporter
