The International Mother Language Day was observed in a befitting manner in the city and all the nine upazilas in Khulna district today.District Administration chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day.The day’s programme started with placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar of City’s Saheed Hadis Park and upazila headquarters paying homage to the valiant language heroes who made their supreme sacrifices for the language movement of their loving mother tongue and her people.Discussion meeting, rally, cultural function and art competition were organized in observance of the day.Discussion meeting, hand writing and art competition among school children, organized by Khulna University (KU) and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) were held at the respective University campuses.Khulna Awami League brought out mourning procession and held a discussion meeting at the party office with Mizanur Rahman Mizan MP from Khulna-2 constituency and also general secretary of Khulna city unit Awami League (AL) in the chair.Lawmaker of Bagerhat-3 constituency and Khulna city unit president Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the meeting as chief guest.Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jatiya Party, Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Journalists Unity, Police administration, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), Khulna Shishu Academy and different socio-cultural and various other organizations separately held discussions at their respective offices payaing tributes to the language heroes at Shaheed Minar at City’s Shaheed Hadis Park.Special prayers and munajat were offered at mosques, temples and churches for the martyrs and peace and prosperity of the nation. -BSS, Khulna
