Ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman has cast his vote openly for boat, the electoral system of party mayoral candidate Selina Hayat Ivy violating the electoral code of conduct in the Narayanganj City Corporation elections.Shamim went to Narayanganj Bar Academy poling centre under ward-12 of the city at about 2:40pm and cast his vote for the boat openly and did not enter the designated polling booth. He also showed the ballot to media people after casting his vote for the boat.
Asked whether he violated the electoral code of conduct by casting vote openly, the AL lawmaker said he wanted to give something special to jouranalists who did not find anything.
“I wanted to make you (journalists) happy at the cost of my bleeding. It’s a gift for my younger brothers,”he said.
When contacted returning officer Nuruzzaman Talukder told reporters that casting vote at open space was a violation of electoral code of conduct.
He, however, said that he was not aware about the incident of code violation by the lawmaker.
Replying to a question, Shamim without mentioning the name of AL candidate hoped that the boat would win the NCC polls.
He said he saw two challengs for his party–one is to ensure holding the election in a free and fair manner and achiving victory of the boat.
He promised journalists to feed the icecream if the boat makes the victory.-STAFF REPORTER
