Shawkat’s bail denied again

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) refused the bail pleas of BNP Chairperson’s Adviser and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud in five cases.

Magistrate Mohammad Yunus Khan of Dhaka CMM Court rejected the five bail petitions. Of the five sabotage cases, three were filed with Mugda Police Station while the remaining two were lodged with Khilgaon Police Station of the city.

Earlier, Shawkat Mahmud was placed on remand on several occasions to quiz him in different cases of similar nature. Besides, another plea of police to put Shawkat on a

ten-day remand is yet to be heard by a Dhaka court.

On August 18, the Detective Branch of police arrested him from in front of Samura Convention Centre in the capital’s Panthapath area. Among others, he was also arrested in connection with three cases filed with Jatrabari and Ramna Police Stations on the charges of arson attacks on vehicles, vandalizing vehicles and crude bomb blasts.
