Shibir calls hartal for Saturday

A Shibir activist was killed and over 70 Jamaat-Shibir activists injured as they locked into a fierce clash with law enforcers on Thursday evening six hours after two Jamaat-Shibir men had been killed in the district.

The deceased was identified as Abdullah, 18, Sathi of Chhatra Shibir.

Confirming the matter, Bogra town Shibir president Alauddin Sohel said, “Our three activists were killed Thursday and we will observe hartal on Saturday protesting the killings.”

Some 12 other Shibir men received bullet injuries, he added.

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Siraj Uddin told banglanews that a clash between cops and Jamaat-Shibir continued over two hours started from 5:30pm.

Later, district Jamaat secretary Mafrafi Hero led a procession of Shibir acitivists in front of thousands of law enforcers.

Chhatra League activists also brought a procession in the area and chanted slogan against the Jamaat and Shibir.

Earlier, thousands of police, armed police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were deployed in Satmatha of the district, said Sadar Circle Senior ASP Mokbul Hossain.

Additional law enforcers from Joypurhat, Naogaon and Rajshahi and Sirajganj were deployed to bring the situation under control.

Bogra District Police Super Mozammel Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

District Jamaat sources said the party might call hartal in Bogra for Saturday or Sunday, even central Jamaat may call countrywide hartal.

Police put barricade to a procession brought by Jamaat-Shibir activists in the district town in the afternoon which triggered a fierce clash between police and Jamaat-Shibir men.

Later, the clash erupted in whole town while police opened fire five hundreds tear shell and rubber bullets to take the situation under control.

District Jamaat leader Majedur Rahman Jewel claimed that over 50 Jamaat-Shibir activists were injured by this time.

Earlier in the day, two Jamaat-Shibir activists were killed and seven others injured in alleged attacks of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Fulbari and Satgram areas.bdnews24.com
