Shibir leader injured in Dinajpur joint forces raid dies in Dhaka

A local leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, who was injured in a clash with law enforcers in Chirirbandar upazila Saturday night, died at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the capital on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Matiur Rahman, president of Nashratpur union unit Chhatra Shibir in the upazila.Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station, said a team joint forces comprising police, BGB and Rab members in a drive arrested a Shibir leader named Khoda Box from Ranirbandar on charge of carrying out subversive activities around 8 pm on Saturday.
In a bid to snatch the Shibir leader, a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists hurled some brickbats at the law enforcers and blasted several crude bombs, forcing them to fire back that left 17 people, including Matiur, injured, he said.
Later, police arrested wounded Matiur and admitted him to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital from where doctors referred him to National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) early Sunday.
Ruhul Amin, superintendent of Dinajpur Police, said Matiur died at NICVD on Sunday morning after admission. – UNB
