Shiv Chaturdashi Fair begins in Chattogram

Chattogram, Mar 11: The three-day annual Shiv Chaturdashi Fair began at Chandranath Temple in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Thursday.
Like previous years, thousands of Hindu devotees have gathered at the fair. The devotees would bathe the idol of Hindu god Shiv with coconut water and milk later in the evening.
Adequate security arrangements have been made by the local administration and the police to ensure the safety of the devotees, officials said.
Medical personnel and firefighters have been deployed for providing emergency services to the sick and the elderly in case of any untoward incident, officials said.
Besides, special bus services will be available for smooth transportation of the worshippers from Sitakunda Bottoli Kali Temple to Echo Park via Chandranath Temple, Barabkunda and Lobonakkho.
Alash Chaodhury, general secretary of the fair committee, said, “All arrangements have been made for making the fair a success. Safe drinking water and makeshift toilets have also been arranged for the devotees.”
Besides, six inter-city trains will make a brief stopover at Sitakunda Rail Station for the convenience of the worshippers.
Sumon Banik, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Model Police Station, said “Some 250 police personnel will be deployed at the fair venue to ensure the security of the devotees.”
“Alongside the cops, RAB, CID and DB personnel will keep an eye at the fair,” he added, reports UNB.
