SI suspended for rape of private university student

A Sub-Inspector of Adabar Police Station in the city was on Monday suspended as he faces charges of harassing a female private university student.
Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) of Metropolitan Police Biplob Kumar Sarkar, told newsmen that they took the decision against SI Ratan Kumar after he was found guilty in the primary inquiry.Farhana Akhter, a first year student of ASA University, facing the alleged harassment filed the case against the SI with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 of Dhaka on Monday morning.
Judge of the tribunal, Salehuddin Ahmed took the case into
cognizance and passed order for judicial investigation into the incident. The court also directed the relevant authorities to submit the probe report within seven working days.
The victim said Ratan and two other constables stopped her rickshaw in front of Japan Garden City and started accusing her of being a Yaba peddler around 3 pm on Sunday when she was on her way to a bookstore on Nurjahan Road, in Mohammadpur area.
The victim also alleged that the policemen then confined her to a
nearby electronics shop, searched her purse and harassed her sexually. – Special Correspondent
