Siblings get life term for murder in Panchagarh

A Panchagarh court on Monday afternoon sentenced two brothers to life term rigorous imprisonment and fined them Taka 20,000 each, or in default, to suffer another six month jail term each, for murdering a man.
District and Sessions Judge of Panchagarh Muhammad Mahbubul Islam handed down the verdict in the jam-packed court room as he found them guilty after examining the witnesses and evidences of the case.The two life tern convict brothers are Mahbub Alam, 35, and Tabibar Rahman, 40, sons of Echhamn Uddin of village Damuapra under Sadar upazila of Panchagarh.The learned court also convicted their another brother Moynul, 32, to
one year rigorous jail term and fined him with Taka 500, or in default, to undergo more one month imprisonment in the same case.The prosecution in brief states that one Moksed Ali, 40, of nearby Debi Jadu village in the same upazila was killed on the spot following a clash between the two rival groups on land dispute on September 23 in 2008.Motiar Rahman, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Panchagarh Sadar Thana accusing 15 persons, including the three convicted brothers, in this connection.After investigation into the case, Investigation Officer Sub-inspector Abdul Latif of Panchagarh Sadar Thana submitted charge sheet against all 15 accused persons before the learned court.After hearing of the case, the learned court found the three brothers guilty and convicted them with various jail terms and acquitted the other 12 accused persons as the charges brought against them were not proved.Public Prosecutor of Panchagarh Advocate Aminur Rahman appeared on behalf of the state while Senior lawyer Advocate Abdul Alim Nurul defended the accused side in the case. -BSS, Rangpur
