Sikder employee arrested for assaulting journo

Police on Thursday arrested Abu Sufian, an employee of ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College Hospital, on charge of assaulting Prothom Alo reporter Shishir Morol.
Police arrested Sufian, a telephone operator of the hospital, in the afternoon.
Hospital sources said the authorities have already sacked Sufian who along with Dr Shafiul Azam beat Shishir at the hospital on Tuesday.Officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station Moinul Islam said they arrested Sufian from the Gulshan branch of the hospital. Efforts are on to arrest Shafiul Azam, too, he added.
On Tuesday, Dr Shafiul Azam, head of the cardiology department, along with Sufian swooped on Bangla daily Prothom Alo special correspondent Shishir and roughed him up confining him for about two and a half hours when he went to the doctor to have his version about the some allegations surfaced against him.
There are allegations that Dr Shafiul has been using several designations like associate professor in one place and professor in another place of his practice and continuing his job at the private hospital for long despite being a government physician.
Shafiul suggested Shishir meeting him at the hospital as he sought his comments over phone about the allegations.
The doctor along with his aides assaulted the journalist as he went to the hospital as per his suggestion. Shishir filed a case with Hazaribagh Police Station against Dr Shafiul and his Abu Sufian in this connection.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the authorities of ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College Hospital expressed sorrow over the incident and suspended its doctor Shafiul Azam.
The authorities also said they will take necessary actions against Shafiul after investigation. – UNB
