Singer Farida Yasmeen passes away

Eminent singer Farida Yasmeen died at a city hospital on Saturday evening. She was 74.
Family sources said the veteran singer breathed her last at Birdem Hospital around 6pm.
Singer Agun, son of Farida’s sister Nilufar Yasmeen, said his aunt had been under going treatment for kidney, blood pressure and some other old-age complications over two weeks at the hospital.
He said her body will be kept at the Birdem mortuary overnight.The singer’s mortal remains will be brought to her Segunbagicha residence on Sunday morning.
Fairda, also the elder sister of another popular singer Sabina Yasmeen, is survived by husband Kazi Anwar Hossain and two sons.
Born in 1941, Farida emerged as a singer in 1957 through radio. In the 60s, she earned huge popularity as a playback singer.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at her demise.
In a condolence message, she said the death of Farida Yasmeen caused an irreparable loss to the country’s musical arena. – UNB
