Mufti Izahar sent to jail, IOJ protests

A court in Chittagong on Saturday sent Mufti Izharul Islam to jail in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Quader passed the order when police produced him before his court.
Additional Commissioner (crime and operation) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Debdash Bhottachargo confirmed the incident.Meanwhile, a 10-member probe team, led by deputy police commissioner of CMP Kushum Dewan, was formed to interrogate the Hefajat leader as well as investigate overall issues regarding the case.
Earlier on Friday, detectives arrested Hefajat-e-Islam leader Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury from Lalkhan Bazar area in the city.
The Hefajat leader had been on the run after the blast at a madrasha on October 7, 2013.
Three students – Zubayer, Habibur and Nurunnabi – were killed  in the ‘mysterious’ explosion inside a room on the 1st floor of the four-storey hostel of the madrasah at Lalkhan Bazar in the city on October 7, 2013.
Later, police conducted a drive at the hostel of the madrasah, run by the Hefajat leader, and recovered several unexploded grenades.
Three cases were filed over the explosion accusing Izharul and his son Harun bin Izhar.- UNB
Menwhile chairman of the Islami Oikya Jote, Moulana Abdul Latif Nezami in a statement to the press protested the arrest of Mufti Izahar and said that  Islami movement in the country cannnot be stopped by subjecting Islami leaders to cases and at5tacks, according to a press release
