Six held with cocaine in city

Detective Branch of police arrested six people along with six pounds of cocaine from the city’s Nikunju area on Thursday. The arrestees are drug peddlers-Md Kamrul Alam, 40, and Md Abu Taher Mandol alias Joba, 30, and their associates- pharmacy owner Md Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, 46, Kazi Khaliullah Mahmud, 40, Md Mamu Hawlader, 34, and Md Mosharraf Hossain, 44. Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch Masudur Rahman said acting on a tip-off, a special team of DB conducted a raid at ‘Sheema Pharmacy’ at Zaman Market of the area on Thursday evening. Police arrested the six people from the pharmacy when they were trying to flee and recovered two brown packets containing cocaine worth Tk 4.5 crore from their possession. During preliminary interrogation, Kamrul and Joba confessed that they were members of an international drug smuggling syndicate and had been involved in drug trading in the capital for long. A case was filed with Khilkhet police station. – UNB
