Social welfare to be recognised as profession

Rajshahi, Nov 10 – A Seminar on “Professional Recognition of Social Work in Bangladesh: Reality and Challenges” organized by Social Work department of Rajshahi University (RU) was held at the Senate building of the university on Saturday. University Vice-chancellor Professor DDrM Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the seminar at 09.00am.
Secretary of the Social Welfare Ministry of Bangladesh Md Zillar Rahman addressed the function as chief guest while Professor Md. Jalal Uddin, treasurer of the Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University of Mymensingh, and Professor Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Dean of Social Science Faculty of the university were present.
Md Mozammel Hoque, president of the Rajshahi University Social Welfare Alumni Association presided over the program while Professor Dr. Md. Shahidur Rahman conducted it.
Speakers said, in the civilized states the social welfare is a profession. But this profession is yet to be recognized in Bangladesh though it has training and education system according to the international standard syllabus, huge space of professional social welfare in public, private and development program and this professional social welfare is aimed to the people’s welfare. They called for recognizing social welfare as a profession.
