Spice supply ‘adequate, price to remain stable’

The Ministry of Commerce, importers and wholesalers on Tuesday affirmed that there will be adequate supply of spices in the market ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and the prices will remain stable.   The assurance came from a meeting with the importers, wholesalers and trade associations concerned held at the Commerce Ministry with additional commerce secretary ATM Murtozaa Reza Chowdhury in the chair.   The business leaders informed the meeting that there is adequate supply and stock of spices — onion, garlic, ginger, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom and others — in the market.   They also said more spices are in the import pipeline, and there will be no crisis ahead of the Eid-uz-Azha.   The government sought cooperation from all concerned so that no artificial crisis of spices is created in the market.   Additional Commerce Secretaries Amitav Chakrabarty and Monoj Kumar Roy, representatives from Bangladesh Tariff Commission (BTC) and the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), FBCCI, Bangladesh Bank and importers were present at the meeting. -UNB
