Dhaka – Touring Sri Lanka won the two-match T20 series 2-0 after beating hosts Bangladesh by 3 wickets in the 2nd T20 match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Friday. Earlier, in the first T20 match, Bangladesh conceded a 2-run defeat against the world number one team in the ICC T20 ranking at the same venue on Wednesday.
In reply to Bangladesh’s moderate 120 runs for all in 19.5 overs, Sri Lanka scored 123 runs for seven in 20 overs to win the match.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh lost quick wickets in the beginning in the face of bowling attack as Shamsur Rahman was caught off a TM Dilshan ball in the very 5th delivery of the innings making 1 run.
Shortly afterwards, Tamim Iqbal followed Shamsur scoring just 2 runs when the team was 3 in 1.2 overs.
Debutant middle order Sabbir Rahman scored team highest 26 runs off 36 balls with two boundaries while one down Anamul Haque made 24 from 17 deliveries with 2 boundaries and 2 over boundaries.
World famed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored 12 runs off 6 balls with 3 boundaries.
Bangladesh lost their 5th wicket of Nasir Hossain before reaching 50 runs in 7.3 overs.
Mahmudullah and Forhad Reza contributed 9 runs each and skipper Mashrafe scored 17 runs off 10 balls.
Lasith Malinga claimed three wickets conceding 20 runs in 3.5 overs.
Nuwan Kulasekara claimed two wickets for 32 runs in his four overs spell and was adjudged player of the series.
Senanayake also took two wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs.
Sri Lankan opened the innings and scored 123 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs with KC Sangakkara scoring the team highest 37 runs off 38 deliveries featuring a four and a six.
NLTC Perera was adjudged man of the match making an unbeaten 35 runs off 28 balls with three boundaries.
Opener MDKJ Perera made 21 runs off 18 balls with three boundaries and an over boundary.
SMSM Senanayake remained not out making 12 runs off 9 balls with a boundary.
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza claimed two wickets for 29 runs while Arafat Sunny and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each for 8 runs.
Mahmudullah and Rubel Hossain also captured one wicket apiece conceding 16 and 34 runs respectively. – UNB
