Awami League MP Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim on Tuesday urged the Indian central government and West Bengal government not to allow any Bangladeshi militant to take shelter in their territories. Taking floor on point of order in Parliament, Selim urged Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not let Bangladeshi militants to take shelter in Indian territories for the sake of good relations between the two neighbouring countries. He also demanded the handover of such criminals to Bangladesh government after their arrest as taking shelter by Jamaat-Shibir militants in the neighbouring country is not desirable. Quoting a newspaper report that ‘many Islamic fundamentalists and Jamaat cadres took shelter in Kolkata of West Bengal when police launched drives in Bangladesh’s southwestern districts, including Satkhira, Sheikh Selim urged the Indian authorities to capture them’. In this connection, he said that media reported hat Trinamul leader of Bashurhat (India) Hasan Ahmed gave them shelter. He is the correspondent of Bangaldeshi newspaper Naya Diganta, Selim said. He said that this is a serious allegation, and the West Bengal government should take necessary steps to arrest the militants who are taking shelter in Kolkata. Selim mentioned that India is a trusted friend of Bangladesh and it has excellent bilateral relations. He said that militants have no identity and they can do harm to any country. – UNB
