Stalker arrested after victim commits suicide

A stalker was arrested Tuesday after a girl of Class IX committed suicide due to his relentless harassment.
Fahima, the victim, committed suicide by tying a scarf around her neck and hanging herself after failing to bear dishonor due to sexual harassment by troublemaker Sujjol at Jogoti area of sadar upazila in the morning.
The deceased Fahima Khatun was the daughter of one Faruk Khan of the locality and a class nine student of Baradi High School.
Faruk Khan lodged a case as plaintiff with Kushtia Model Police Station against autorickshaw driver and troublemaker Sujjol, son of Bodor Shah of the same area, on charge of instigating the girl to commit suicide.
According to the case statement, Sujjol used to stalk Fahima on her way to school for a long time. On Tuesday morning, Sujjol stepped up the harassment by physically touching her while she was on her way to a neighbour’s house to bring milk.
Back home, Fahima narrated the incident to her family members.
Afterwards her mother Sufia Begum along with daughter Fahima went to Sujjol’s house to seek justice but Sujjol’s family members started rebuking them and forced them out of the house.
Failing to bear such dishonor, Fahima ran home and took the fatal step of killing herself.
When contacted Arifur Rahman, Headmaster of Baradi High School, informed that “Fahima came to school also on Tuesday. I heard that she committed suicide one hour after her mother called her at 10 am. Later I came to know that she committed suicide after failing to bear dishonour by stalker Sujjol.”
He demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits after conducting proper investigation.
Sufia, mother of the deceased school girl alleged that “My daughter was upset by the repression of the stalker Sujjol. I didn’t get any result even after seeking justice socially. I want exemplary punishment”.
Meanwhile, Nasir Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Kushtia Model Police Station, informed that police has arrested Sujjol, son of Bodor Shah of Baradi area of sadar upazila, after a case filed by the father of the schoolgirl.
“If evidence found in the investigation against anyone involved with the incident, legal action will be taken against them,” he added, reports UNB from Kushtia.
