StanChart, Nymphea launch ‘Coins from Bangladesh’

Standard Chartered and Nymphea are proud to present a vivid pictorial and informative book titled ‘Coins from Bangladesh’. It is an insight into the glorious past of Bengal and aims to enrich reader’s knowledge on socio-economic and political systems through symbols and images of coins.Around 200 stunning photographs of coins ranging from 6th Century BC to recent years illustrated in the book that takes back to early history of Bangladesh and acquaint readers with people, society and splendid economies of ancient Bengal, representing rituals, religious beliefs and particular ruling authority.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman ormally launched the book at a function held at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the capital on Sunday. Eminent personalities including professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman, Professor Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam of Dhaka University, former Chief Information Commissioner Muhammad Zamir and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Jim McCabe were also present amongst others on the occasion, says a press release.
Two archaeological talents – Professor Dr. A.K.M. Shahnawaz and Associate Professor Bulbul Ahmed of the Department of Archaeology, Jahangirnagar University contributed to this book.
Launching the Book Dr. Atiur Rahman said, “Coins are not only the means of doing business bust also part of our culture and heritage. We can be acquainted with the life style, education, culture and various aspects of archaeological developments of human civilization through coins and currencies of various eras.” He hoped that this book will fascinate a lot of people with the strong cultural diversities.
Speaking at the function  Jim McCabe, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) said, ‘Coins from Bangladesh’ is a first of its kind publication that will enable the current generation of Bangladeshis to see coins from different periods and enjoy the diversity of their country’s history. He added SCB has been a partner in progress for the nation and the people and the bank always strive to be a force for good in Bangladesh.
Karunangshu Barua, Chief Executive Offricer, Nymphea said “Nymphea published the ‘Coins from Bangladesh’ as a part of its endeavor to encourage country’s art, culture and heritage. In last 14 years of our journey, we have published a number of such books. He thanked writers and sponsor bank for their noble contribution and support.
The launch of ‘Coins from Bangladesh” will be followed up with a three day long photography exhibition based on the book at Drik Gallery from 1st July to 3rd July from 3 pm to 8 pm.
