First two-day Zakat fair begins Friday

With the theme “Making a Difference with Zakat” two-day Zakat Fair 2013 a first  ever in Bangladesh will be held on Friday & Saturday 5 & 6 July ’13 at National Shooting Federation Auditorium (Shooting Club), Gulshan, Dhaka. Former Chief Election Commissioner Justice Muhammad Abdur Rouf is expected to inaugurate the Fair on Friday morning.The Centre for Zakat Management, Muslim Aid, EXIM Bank, Islamic Relief UK and Society for Social and Technological Support (SSTS) Kuwait have jointly organized the Fair. The Fair will be open for members of the public from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
On Wednesday morning at Meet the Press was rganised at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium.
Speakers on behalf of the organisers observed that the Fair would be marked as a milestone for them who are working with the zakat-based program for poverty reduction and human development.
The written statement was read by Khandker Zakaria Ahmed, Secretary of the Fair Organizing Committee and senior official of Centre for Zakat Management. He was assisted by Dr. S.M. Rafiqul Islam, Technical Adviser of Muslim aid, Mohammad Alomgir, Head of Advocacy of Islamic Relief, Dr. Abdul Mukit of SSTS.
The organisers informed that the objective of the fair are: (1) to motivate people to give their zakat in an organised manner for achieving greater result; (2) to clarify various issues on Zakat calculation and Fiqh of Zakat; and (3) to share experience of various organisations working with utilisation of Zakat for poverty alleviation.
Three open discussion meetings will take place at the Fair venue on different aspects of Zakat and Ramadan and the notable Islamic scholars will address the audience. Shariah experts will be available there for calculating zakat and solving questions of the Zakat payers. Besides, calligraphic art works of famous artists will be displayed. In addition to the stalls of the host organisations there would be other stalls of Islamic books, women garment including hijab, gift items, food courts among others.
The other participating organisations include Institute of Hazrat Muhammad (SWS), Mercy Mission, Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought and Online Islamic University.
