Dhaka, Sept 2 – Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Saturday urged the world community to stand beside Rohingyas fleeing Myanmar’s Rakhine state.The minister came up with the call while speaking at Shahi Eidgah in the city of Sylhet before the Eid congregation.
“Despite being a densely-populated country, Bangladesh has been providing accommodation and assistance to Rohingyas fleeing Rakhine to avoid persecution,” Muhith said.
He also urged the world community to take steps to resolve the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
According to information provided by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), around 18,000 undocumented Myanmar nationals have so far entered Bangladesh following a fresh outbreak of violence on August 24 in Rakhine. – – UNB
