Speakers at a workshop here on Sunday underscored the need for standing beside the children with positive attitude during the period of disasters like flood, cold wave and earth quake to protect them from the catastrophe.
As the children are the future of the nation, pragmatic measures will be taken for them so that they are not faced any awkward situation during the time of disasters, they said.
The speakers made the comments while addressing an advocacy workshop on “Child-centered Disaster Risk Reduction, climate change and vulnerabilities” here on Sunday.
District administration organized the workshp under Local Capacity Building and Community Empowerment project with the financial support of UNICEF Bangladesh.
With acting DC Muhammad Mizanur Rahman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by civil surgeon Dr. Abdus Shakur, additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk, deputy director of family planning department Deowan Morshed Kamal, district relief and rehabilitation officer AKM Idris Ali, district women affairs officer Shahnaz Akter, district child affairs officer Mosarrof Hossain Prodhan, acting district information officer Sabiha Lucky and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
An initiative to provide all sorts of facilities from the government and the non government organizations would be taken for the children during the disasters so that they would survive without any trouble, the speakers said.
They also said the children should be protected from all sorts of evil deeds and inhuman situation like injustice and violence including early marriage in the greater interest of their proper mental and physical growth to make them worthy citizens of the country.
Many recommendations and strategies were also adopted during the open discussion session of the workshop to ensure the rights of the children in the society.
A number of district and upazila level officials, UNOs, public representatives, NGO activists and journalists attended the workshop, reports BSS, Gaibandha.
