Stop sheltering criminals: Quader

Obaidul Quader on Wednesday urged the people to unite to stop giving shelter to criminals. He was speaking at a media briefing at his official residence in Dhaka.

Mentioning that the culture of impunity in this country was introduced by BNP, Quader said the government is trying to get rid of it.

Stating that the government’s stance against irregularities, corruption and social crimes is strict, Quader said the government’s stern attitude was reflected in the enactment of the ordinance by adding the provision of death penalty in the existing law for rape.

He hoped that if the provisions of the law are strictly enforced, the perpetrators will be scared and all these crimes will come under control.

He said during the BNP tenure thousands of women were tortured but the perpetrators went scot-free. The torture of minorities exceeded all records.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said that after the formation of Sheikh Hasina’s government, the culture of impunity has ended and the culture of justice has been introduced in the country.

He said the government has not let anyone off the hook considering their political identities. Quader urged the people not to be distracted by all the propaganda of the ill mitivated people, saying that a group is spreading anti-state and anti-government propaganda through social media in the country and abroad.

He said this section is spreading propaganda and tarnishing the image of the country. He said the country’s economy has already turned around under the strong and visionary leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
