Speakers at a seminar on Thursday expressed their concerns over using
orphan children in the political programmes.
Addressing a seminar on national plan of action to reduce child
labour held at IPD conference room of Sangsad Bhaban, they underlined
the need for political commitment and willingness to eliminate child
labour.
The speakers said specific plan of action should be taken up to stop
child labour adding it is not justified to use children in political
violence when talk about reducing child labour.
The seminar organized by Social and Economic Enhancement Programme
(SEEP) was held with its general secretary Fazlul Haque Chowdhury in
the chair.
Addressing the function as the chief guest Md Israfil Alam, Chairman
of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labour and
Manpower, mentioned different programmes taken up by the government
and said the application of the laws is more important then enactment
of new laws.
“We speak about the rights of the children and again we use distress
and orphan children to carryout political programme,” he said.
Israfil Alam underlined the need for taking political commitments and
willingness to implement those to change about the state of the
children in the country.
Noni Gopal Mandal, MP expressed his resentment over using children of
madrasah and orphanage in the programme of Hefazat-e-Islami and
demanded taking action against those were responsible for that.
Advocate Sohrab Ali Sana, MP, emphasized the need for taking
work-oriented education specially for the poor children.
Mahmududl Kabir, country director of Terre des Hommes-Netherlands,
Abdullah Al Mamun, programme manager of Manusher Jonney Foundation,
Tahmina Jesmin Mita of SEEP, Shahnaj Rahman, Ehsan Haque, Rafiqul
Bari, Zahidul Islam, Mohsen Uddin Sumon and Moniruzzaman Mukul, among
