Student-teacher Repression Day observed at RU

The Rajshahi University administration on Monday organised a discussion programme on “Student-Teacher Repression Day” marking the countrywide atrocities on students from August 20 to 24 in 2007 during the military-backed caretaker government rule.
The programme was held at the university Senate Bhaban at 11.00am.
The programme was presided over by VC Professor Dr Mizan Uddin while acting register Professor Entajul Haque moderated it.Former VC of the university Prof. Saidur Rahman Khan, Pro-VC Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, chairman of the Geology and Mining department Prof. Golam Sabbir Sattar, Prof. Malay Kumar Boumik of Management Studies, Dulal Chandra Bishwas of Mass Communication and Journalism, assistant-chief information officer Md. Sadequl Islam spoke at the discussion where most of them were victim of assaulting.
Speakers said, as students of the country played a vital role in every movement in Bangladesh, they also stood against all autocratic and oppressive activities of the military-backed caretaker government of 2007 mostly known as Moinuddin-Fakruddin government.
Many teachers and students of Dhaka and Rajshahi university were assaulted by the government forces as they protested against their undemocratic activities.
Speakers also demanded proper investigation of the incident and punishment of those perpetrators involved in this. – RU Correspondent
