Students vow to eradicate child marriage

Students of Madhupur Salehia Darus Sunnat Dakhil Madrasa and Kazirhat High School under Badarganj upazila here have vowed for launching social movement to eradicate child marriage and repression on women.
Over 250 male and female students of these educational intuitions made commitments to eradicate child marriage from society at separate discussions and quiz competitions arranged by BRAC on adverse impacts of child marriage on Sunday.Badarganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khandker Istiaque Ahmed attended the discussion arranged at Madhupur Salehia Darus Sunnat Dakhil Madrasa as the chief guest with Superintendent of the Madrasa Moulana Abdul based Shah in the chair. Female Vice-chairman of Badarganj upazila parishad Rubina Akhter addressed the other discussion arranged at Kazirhat High School as the chief guest with Chairman of the School Overweening Committee Abdus Samad Mandal in the chair.Acting Headmaster of Kazirhat High School Mohammad Shahjahan Ali, Senior District Manager of BRAC Sazaduzzaman Chowdhury, civil society members Mezbahul Kabir Sabuz and Rezaul Karim Panna, also addressed.In the beginning, male and female students of these institutions took oath to create mass public awareness through narrating negative impacts of child marriage, dowry, domestic violence and repression to resist these social curses for building a better society. Thanking the students, speakers in the discussions narrated the reasons behind these social curses that have engulfed the society, especially the poorer section and backward people for decades together with creating unrest in family life and society. They called upon all concerned, including the guardians, to set up an example of not arranging any child marriage to free the upazila from the curse through collective initiatives and rectifying their past mistakes. The chief guests put especial emphasis on involving the students, teachers, parents, community leaders, marriage registrars, public representatives and civil society members for launching vigorous social movement to eradicate early marriage from the society.BSS, Rangpur
