Syed Mahmud mourned with rich tributes

Dhaka, March 18 – Rich tributes were paid to veteran journalist Syed Mahmud by his colleagues and friends at a condolence meeting organised by the Dhaka Journalists Housing Cooperative Society at its Mirpur Residential Area on Saturday. Syed Mahmud passed away of 9 March following a massive heart attack.Speakers at the condolence meeting, held with society president Nurul Huda in the chair, recalled the honesty, straightforwardness and simplicity of manners of Syed Mahmud who always had a deeper insight of events taking place at national and international arenas.
A former Assistant Editor of the Daily Ittefaq, Dainik Purbadesh, the Dainik Bangla, Ajker Pratyasha and a senior journalist of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and editor of Diner Alo and monthly Agradoot, Syed Mahmud was highly respected for his integrity. Till his death he was the Executive Editor of GreenWatch Dhaka online newspaper.
Eldest son of Syed Abdur Rauf, member of Bengal Legislative Assembly before the 1947 Partition, Syed Mahmud has left behind his wife, two daughters and a host of relatives. His elder sister late Hasina Ashraf was a renowned journalist of now defunct Dainik Bangla and younger brother Syed Mahmud Firoze is a senior journalist.
The condolence meeting was addressed by Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Consultant Editor of Daily Asian Age, veteran journalists Mufakkharul Anam, Ziaul Huq, Ataur Rahman, Qayyum Khan Milon, society vice president Rafiqul Islam, secretary Aminul Haque, senior journalists Bashir Ahmed, Ahsan Hamid, Sajjad Hossain Khan, Mokarram Hossain, Ashraful Huq, and Syed Mahmud’s relative Mr. Selim.
They prayed for eternal peace of Syed Mahmud and sympathizes with the members of his bereaved family.
