buildings did not obtain SCC approval. Not only that around 90 percent buildings in Sylhet have been built illegally.Official sources said, the building owners of those areas have gone to construct their buildings having
obtained approval from local government bodies, he said, adding that the local government bodies do not have the required expertise to do the job.

the city areas of the Sylhet especially Zindabazar, City Super market, Surma market, district women office, food office, customs and VAT office, district SA
store room without approval from SCC though it is mandatory.
As a result, the owners got theirbuildings constructed without soil test, improper piling, faulty construction,
use of inferior quality construction materials and violation of building code,
he said adding these lead to occasional accidents.
The owners were in many cases built buildings occupying roads, canals and open space, extending upper floors
of the structures, constructing ramp and sun shed.
Although all suburban areas of the Sylhet are under the jurisdiction of SCC it could not establish its
authority over those areas in absence of necessary   manpower, he said.

Sylhet were built violating SCC plan.
It may be possible to overcome the situation, he said, by motivating people to follow building code and by
creating awareness among them about the consequences of building unauthorized
structures.
Although SCC is supposed to ensure compliance of building code rules in the Sylhet, but a section of
corrupt employees were engaged in approving plans through under hand deals.
