Dhaka, Jan 8 – New Zealand clean swept Bangladesh by 3-0 margin with a 27-run in the 3rd match of their T20I meet at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Sunday, riding on Corey Anderson’s career best 94 (not out).
Bangladesh conceded defeat in the 2nd match by 47 runs and by six-wicket in the 1th match of the T20I series.In the day’s match, chasing a target of 195 runs, the Tigers exhaled their innings’ last breath collecting 167 for 6 in 20 overs, including two notable figures of 42 and 41 runs by Soumya Sarkar and Shakib Al Hasan respectively.
Soumya faced 28 balls to fire six boundaries while Shakib played 34 balls to fire four boundaries.
Bangladesh made a good start with their opening pair’s contribution of 44 in 4.4 overs between Tamim Iqbal and Soumya.
Tamim left the crease scoring 24 off 15 balls, including three boundaries and the only over boundary of Bangladesh innings.
Sabbir Rahman(18), Mahmudullah Riyad (18) and Mosaddek Hossain (12) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Delivering four overs each, Ish Sodhi and Trent Boult captured two wickets apiece for 22 and 48 runs. Williamson and Mitchell Santner took one wicket each for 9 and 37 runs in two and four overs respectively.
Sent in to bat first, New Zealand collected 194/4 in 20 overs, including a brilliant partnership figure of 124 in 12 overs between man of the match Anderson and opener-cum-skipper Williamson in the 4th wicket that carried the team total to 165/4 in 18.1 overs from 41/3 in 6.1 overs.
Williamson who hit a half century of 60 runs, got life twice in the 15th and 17th overs, due to the Tigers’ misfielding finally departed from the 4th pair of Rubel Hossain bowling.
Anderson played till the end to feature 10 over boundaries and two boundaries off 41 balls, while Williamson fired six boundaries and one over boundary off 57 balls. James Neesham (15) was another double figure scorer for the side.
Rubel Hossain captured three wickets for 31 runs in four overs while Mosaddek Hossain took one for 27 runs in 3.4 overs.
In the 15th over Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza conceded 22 runs while all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan dropped a catch opportunity to depart Williamson from 4th pair in 14.2 overs.
In the 17.1 overs Williamson got another life to stay at crease as Tamim Iqbal dropped the catch of a Mashrafe’s delivery.
The touring side also conceded a 3-0 margin defeat in the ODI series which ended in December 2016. – UNB
