Taijul bags career-best match haul 11/170 in Test

Sylhet – Bangladesh’s spinner Taijul Islam has bagged his career-best match haul in Test cricket, grabbing 11 wickets for 170 in two innings against Zimbabwe in the first Test of the two-match series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.Taijul also placed third in the list of best bowling figures for Bangladesh in Test after taking 6/108 and 5/62 in the Zimbabwe’s first and second innings respectively.

For his five-for in the second innings on Monday, Taijul sent off Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Peter Moor and Sikandar Raza before finishing the Zimbabwe innings taking last blood Tendai Chatara by dint of lbw on 181 in 65.4 overs.

The spinner grabbed 6/108 in the first innings for this feat. His previous best bowling figure (9/81) in a Test match was also against Zimbabwe in Dhaka in October 2014.

With the feat, Taijul leapfrogged all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s best match haul of 10/124 but is still behind Mehidy Hasan Miraz [12/156] and Enamul Haque Jr [12/200].

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have six sessions over the next two days with 10 wickets in hands to score 295 more runs to win the Test against visiting Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh scored 143 runs in the first innings and 26/0* in 10.1 overs at stumps in the second innings with Liton Kumar Das [14*] and Imrul Kayes [12*] batting in the opening stand after the third day.Zimbabwe scored 282 in the 1st innings and 181 in the 2nd innings.UNB
