The government has floated the first ever global tender for the upcoming Taka 22,000 crore worth mega metro rail project.
“We have floated global tender under pakage-8 on last Friday to procure Rolling Stock (engines and coaches) and depot equipment for metro rail,” he told journalists at a press conference at his ministry’s conference room at secretariat here today.
Under the tender, the government will procure equipment as well as build depot, metro rail plant, workshop, operation control centre, electrical bhaban, washing plant and training center at Taka 3,000 crore, he said.The minister said tender for pakage-1 and 7 will be floated this month. The tender for building 20km viaduct and 16 stations under package 3,4,5 and 6 will be floated in May next and tender for completing public works of the project buildings under Package 2 will be invited in October this year, he said.
Invitation of tender for all 8 packages would be completed by the end of 2015, the minister said.
Quader reiterated his firm hope that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported Metro Rail project will be completed by 2019, ahead of the stipulated time as per the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
