Taken plan to construct bridge over Teesta in Gaibandha

The government has taken up a plan to construct a much need bridge over the Teesta River to ease the road communication system between Kurigram and Gaibandha districts including Lalmonirhat.
The 1,490 metre long bridge would be constructed over the river between the Horipurghat of Sundarganj upazila under Gaibandha district and Chilmari Kheyaghat points of Chilmari upazila under Kurigram district at the direct supervision of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). This was disclosed by executive engineer of LGED here M Belal Hossain in a district development coordination meeting held here recently with DC Dr Quazi Anwarul Haque in the chair. Belal Hossain said the development project proposal (DPP) now is in wait to get approval by the members of ECNEC and then, the tender notice to construct the bridge would be floated in national dailies.The bridge to be constructed by the LGED would be the largest and the biggest bridge in the country and the building cost of the bridge has been estimated at Taka about 350 crore, he also said. Earlier, the feasibility study to construct the bridge was done by the experts’ team of Water and Flood Management Institute of BUET led by Professor Sajib Kumar Bala and Professor Dr Tariqul Islam in 2010 and 2011, he added.He said that with the construction of the bridge, at least 65-kilometer way between Gaibandha and Kurigram would be saved.A spacious road from the bridge would also be connected to Rangpur-Bogra Highway at Dhaperhat area under Sadullapur upazila via Laxipur-Sadullapur upazila town to avoid severe traffic jam in the district town, he further added.Talking to the BSS the executive engineer said it has so much possibility to start the work at the end of December if the project was passed in ECNEC meeting without delay.  BSS, Gaibandha
