Early preparedness for effective disaster management stressed’

Speakers at workshop today stressed for coordinated GO-NGO efforts involving local community people for early preparedness to ensure effective and emergency response management system to reduce risk of natural disasters.
They were addressing concluding ceremony of the two-day workshop on ‘Disaster Management and Adaptation with Climate Change Impacts’ organised by RDRS Bangladesh at Raipur union parishad auditorium in Pirganj upazila in the district. Member of Raipur union parishad Piyari Begum attended and addressed the ceremony as the chief guest with President of Village Affairs Federation of RDRS Bangladesh Dholi Rani Sarker in the chair. Local union parishad members Atoar Rahman, Chand Mian and Mostafizur Rahman also addressed the workshop participated by male and female community leaders from all wards of Raipur union, teachers, civil society members, professionals and elite. Representative of RDRS Bangladesh Jahirul Islam took part as the main resource person and narrated various types of natural disasters and suggested the way-outs for reducing disaster risks in the disaster-prone rural areas. The speakers put importance on coordinated efforts of all concerned government and non-government organisations and local public representatives for creating awareness through disseminating knowledge among common people to reduce disaster risks. They suggested for innovating need-based local mechanisms to cope and adapt with the adverse impacts of climate change on the agriculture, eco-systems, environment, bio-diversity and all sorts of increasing threats of natural disasters.
