Tax evasion case against Sayeedi, complainant testifies

War crimes convict Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi was produced in a Dhaka court in the case filed against him for evading income tax. Complainant Assistant Tax Commissioner Masuma Khatun testified yesterday for the second day while Acting Judge of the Special Judge Court-3, Mohammad Nazrul Islam recorded her depositions on Monday.
The Special Judge’s Court-3 of Dhaka, was yesterday, set up at Alia Madrasa ground in Bakshibazar of Old Dhaka. However, as the depositions of the complainant could not be completed on Monday, the court fixed May 19 to record further depositions of Masuma Khatun.
The case docket says, accused Sayeedi concealed information of his income amounting to Tk 2,27,40,120 and thus he evaded income tax of Tk 56,46,812.
On September 15, 2012, the court framed charge against Delwar Hossain Sayeedi and ordered to start a trial process in the case.
Delwar Hossain Sayeedi has been sentenced unto death for crimes committed during the country's War of Liberation. He is the lone accused in the case.
Advocate Rezaul Karim Bachhu conducted the hearing on behalf of the prosecution while advocates Abdus Sobhan Tarafder and Muhammad Muzahidul Islam appeared for Sayeedi.
