TCB cuts sugar price by Tk 1 a kg

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has reduced sugar price by Tk 1 per kg to sell at Tk 43 per kg now as its demand marked a rise further ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. “Sugar will now be sold at Tk 43 per kg instead of Tk 44. The step has been taken to keep its supply and price stable in the market,” said an official at the Commerce Ministry on Sunday.   Meanwhile, the fourth phase sales of essential commodities through TCB trucks and dealers will continue till the celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims.   The Commerce Ministry officials said the government has enough stock of edible oil, sugar and chickpeas and there is no possibility of short supply of these essentials.   The TCB started selling edible oil, pulse, sugar and chickpea in open market on June 23 to ensure smooth supply of essentials during Ramadan.   The essentials are being sold through TCB’s sales centres in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barisal and Sylhet and through its countrywide dealers. – UNB
