A mobile court of Department of Environment (DoE) on Monday fined a textile factory named Ring Shine Textile Limited Tk 38 lakh and 40 thousand for polluting environment by releasing toxic bilge water into nearby water land in Jirabo of Ashulia, said a press release.Director (monitoring and enforcement) of DoE M Alamgir Hossain, in a drive, fined the “Ring Shine Textile Limited” for discharging environment harmful effluent into a nearby marshland by using faulty effluent treatment plant and destroying navigability and destroying biodiversity of the Ashulia area.
Alamgir Hossain said the department is working to check pollution through continuous enforcement drives, but it cannot be possible only through them unless industrialists and factory owners along with people come forward.
On the other hand, the factory officials admitting widespread pollution by them, promised to take immediate measures to stop it at the DoE office at noon the same day.
