Tigers all out for 289 in second Test against New Zealand

Dhaka – Bangladesh ended the first innings on day one collecting 289 for all against New Zealand in the 2nd Test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Friday.
The visitors were sent in to bat first to open the innings and played 84.3 overs for their collection which was spurred by two half centuries by opening batsman Soumya Sarkar and all-round batsman Shakib Al Hasan.Soumya saw his maiden Test half century scoring 86 off 104 balls, including 11 boundaries, while Shakib hammered 20th one firing nine boundaries off 78 balls for 59 runs.After suffering the early damage losing two wickets — skipper-cum-opener Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad — for 38/2 in 10.2 overs, Soumya and Shakib paired in the 3rd wicket to play an innings of 127 runs in 25.3 overs that carried the team total to 165/3 in 35.5 overs.The 3rd pair collected decent 4.98 runs per over and departed by Trent Boult as Soumya was caught by Colin de Grandhomme.Debutant wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan was another notable scorer in the innings with 47 off 98 balls, including five boundaries, while Rubel Hossain, a pace bowler, added unbeaten 16 runs.  Tim Southee and Trent Boult shared nine wickets to destroy the Tigers’ batting line on day one.On the way to stunning five-for 94 runs, Southee made the first breakthrough in the Tigers’ den dismissing Tamim (5), then hunted Shakib, debut Nazmul Hossain Shanto (18), Taskin Ahmed(8) and Kamrul Islam Rabbi (2).    Boult bagged four wickets — Soumya, Mahmudullah(19), Sabbir Rahman(7) and Nurul Hasan — for 87 runs.
