Barguna fire burns down 17 shops

Dhaka  – At least 17 shops were gutted by a fire that broke out in Kholpatua Bazar of Bamna upazila in Barguna early Friday.Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the footwear shop of Afzal Hossain at the bazaar around 3:30am and soon it engulfed the adjoining 16 other business establishments.On information, two firefighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts, said Abdul Haque, station officer of Mathbaria Fire Service.The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss caused by the fire would exceed Tk 2 crore.Meanwhile, Shawkat Hasanur Rahman Rimon, MP from Barguna-2 constituency, distributed Tk 5,000 while and Upazila Parishad Chairman Saitul Islam Litu Tk 2,000 to each of the affected 23 traders.UNB
