Tigers brave persistent rain to continue individual training

DHAKA —The players continued their individual training in accordance with standard health protocol at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) despite being interrupted by the inclement weather.

A total of four cricketers practiced on Tuesday at the ‘home of cricket’ with the pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana as the new edition to the list with Mushfiqur Rahim, Shafiul Islam and Imrul Kayes. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has also been added to the list but he will begin his practice session from Thursday, a BCB press release said here today.

On the third day of the individual training session, Shaiful Islam and Mushfiqur Rahim did their part of practice without any intervention of the rain. While Shaiful did his running for 30 minutes, Mushfiqur practiced his batting at indoor for one hour before doing 30 minutes running.

Later, when Imrul Kayes, who got a blister on his left thumb during the batting session yesterday (Monday), came for his running session, the rain started pouring. But he didn’t stop as he continued his running session before Mehedi Hasan Rana entered the ground.

Rana, who shot to the limelight during the last Bangabandhu Bangladeshi Premier League (BBPL), also avoided the persistent rain to do his running session for 30 minutes.

“The standard health protocol is in place and the players nicely maintained it so far to do their practice session,” said BCB chief physician Dr. Devashis Chowdhury.

“For the sake of their security and the others, they would have to maintain it and the BCB is very careful about it. Hopefully we can continue it in this safe way.”

Initially a total of nine players took the opportunity to practice at four venues–Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram, Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium (SANS) in Khulna and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. While three players started practicing in Dhaka, two each in Khulna and Sylhet and one in Chattogram availed the opportunity of outdoor training.

Later, the BCB informed that two more players–fast bowlers Mehedi Hasan Rana and Taskin Ahmed– joined the list and they would practice in SBNCS.

The BCB though is not strongly encouraging the players to do outdoor training right at this moment, they still permitted the players to do training by maintaining health rules and social distancing.

The BCB, however, thinks that the number of players for individual training will increase day by day. At the same time, the cricket apex body has the plan to begin a conditioning camp after the break of Eid-ul-Azha.BSS
